SETsquared Exeter Discovery Rooms are an ongoing series of fully funded events through the ERDF University of Exeter Enterprise Zone, bringing together SMEs, sector experts, researchers and entrepreneurs to learn about effective business applications of new technologies and innovations. Across the series we will be looking at a variety of sector specialisms and themes, so check back regularly to see what else is coming up!

These Discovery Room events aim to :

  • raise awareness and utilisation of new technologies and innovations and how they are being adopted in the real world

  • provide the chance to network with peers and experts and to build community knowledge

Discovery Rooms are open to all in the business community but we particularly welcome attendees from the Devon region.

15th September 2021 - Discovering emerging digital technologies and opportunities in health and wellbeing

Join us for sector network event delivered by SETsquared Exeter, providing a look at some examples of how technology is developed and adapted for use in the health sector with exciting community wellbeing benefits.

This workshop is aimed at those who are interested in learning more about emerging digital technologies and developments within the health and wellbeing sectors.

We will look at examples of how the application of technology is helping people to feel healthier, happier and more connected through understanding the different challenges they face linked to health and wellbeing, and their aspirations for using technology to help overcome them.

This workshop will give you insight into the real world application of new technologies to provide innovative and effective business solutions. It will also provide an opportunity to meet and connect with peers and experts within the sector.

Our speakers

James Rowberry

James Rowberry works as a Knowledge Exchange Officer for the Smartline Project within the European Centre for Environment and Human Health (ECEHH) of the University of Exeter in Cornwall.

James is responsible for business engagement for the Smartline Project linking innovation to cutting edge research and working closely with Cornish SMEs to support research and development. James has extensive experience working in the private and public sector, assisting innovation, collaborative working and supporting business engagement and previously was a Partnership Manager for a large £13million European Social Fund (ESF) in Cornwall named Work Routes delivered by Reed in Partnership. He also owns a private physiotherapy company PhysioCornwall First offering out of hour’s physiotherapy treatments by senior specialist physiotherapists.

Smartline

Led by the University of Exeter in partnership with Coastline Housing, Cornwall Council, South West Academic Health Science Network (SWAHSN) and Volunteer Cornwall Smartline brings together researchers, organisations and businesses to explore how technology can help people to feel healthier, happier and more connected

Jeremy Sneller

Jeremy is Managing Director of TouchByte and has a career history of leading innovation in the information technology and services industry. He is also an Enterprise Advisor for a local College helping youngsters open their eyes to a career in Digital IT.

TouchByte have been finalists in the Ignite New Start Up Business awards, award winners at SW VentureFest, one of two South West companies to attend Pitch@Palace, achieved Innovation of the year and Entrepreneur of the year in 2018 and recently awarded Innovate UK funding to pivot FACENTRY to have a IP66 rated Contactless door station for secure Access Control for sites, buildings and doors in 2020.

The five-year-old company had been developing a number of face recognition technology applications but with COVID the company has adapted its technology to support applications within the health sector
